Abstract: Gum disease as a complex phenomenon of interaction between microorganisms, the host immune reaction, inflammatory responses, and environmental modifying factors needed to be evaluated based on determinants of clinical Gum disease health. Gum disease health is a broad term used to indicate the state of wellness or nature of supporting tooth structures along with precipitating and contributing factors in mere absence of clinical signs and symptoms. Despite the continually changing concepts and definition of Gum disease health it is important to define specific signs and symptoms, determinants of Gum disease health that are within a significant standard definition of normal. Thus, the present review was aimed to discuss various aspects of Gum disease health that play a crucial role in clinical decision making. The multifactorial concept of Gum disease disease is briefly explained and it is revealed that re-establishment of Gum disease health will be defined by an individual's response to treatment, taking into consideration of holistic and outcome-based management. It can be concluded that three layers of factors namely biologically discrete entities of biofilm and host that affect the periodontium; environmental and systemic factors that can influence biological entities; and general conditions that influence both the biological and the environmental / systemic factors influence the maintenance of Gum disease health status. Further studies should be carried out to establish the effectiveness of Supportive Gum disease therapy, importance and validity of alternate Gum disease outcomes and their relationship to true outcomes. Clinicians are expected to use the best, most upto-date research evidence available, to make decisions about the patient’s care.
